Anne Steele Hailing from Shelbyville, Indiana, Anne’s life and career has taken her many places before landing her in the Big Apple. For 17 years, Anne studied tap, jazz and even a little ballet. In fact, her mother, Sue Steele, owns and operates the Sue Steele Star Factory, a dance studio in Shelbyville. By age 9, Anne was already a headliner. She captured the title role in a local production of what else, but Annie. Her love of singing and dancing continued through her years in high school and she played a lead role in every production at Shelbyville High School. Upon graduation, Anne attended Ball State University and received a BS in Psychology and Political Science. During her time at Ball State, Anne would spend her summers performing at King’s Island in Cincinnati, OH. After college, Anne moved to Nashville, TN and worked as a singer/dancer in the productions at Opryland U.S.A. for 2 years. In 1997, Anne finally took the plunge and moved to New York City. Since that time she has performed all over the world including Austria, Switzerland, Germany, the Caribbean, and throughout the United States…to name a few!. Last summer, Anne was a headliner at Montparnasse, the premier musical venue on the isle of Mykonos, Greece during the 2004 Summer Olympics. Anne was a 2001 MAC (Manhattan Association of Cabaret) nominee for her debut in New York City. She was also a finalist in 2003 and 2004 for Best Piano Bar Entertainer at the Nightlife Awards. Anne is extremely excited about her most recent project. She is a member of the group Tipping the Velvet. This is a unique girl group, made up of three successful solo singers. Jenifer Kruskamp and Stephanie Geber make up the remainder of the trio. Their voices blend together to create some of the most amazing harmonies ever heard. TTV’s repertoire ranges from the Andrew Sisters to Alanis Morissette, while including everything in between. They have performed several shows since 2003 at the world reknown piano bar, Don’t Tell Mama. The first show, Witchcraft, ran in the fall of 2003. TTV’s last show was Christmas Radio Hour in the winter of 2004. The show was met with high acclaim and received the Backstage Bistro Award for Outstanding Musical Review in 2004. Last year, Tipping the Velvet performed as part of an incredible lineup of talent on the r family vacations annual cruise, hosted by Rosie O’Donnell. In the midst of some of Broadway’s most acclaimed performers, the group was a hit and has already been asked to perform on the Alaskan cruise in July of 2006.. Tipping The Velvet’s last project was September 18, 2005. They were part of the incredible cast of performers at Broadway Unplugged at Town Hall. The ladies sang without ANY amplification……not that they need it!. For more info on Anne, visit her website, AnneSteele.com.
