Harry McEwan

Harry McEwan, while a seasoned stage performer, is also an award winning writer. In 2002, his screenplay, "Once Eden" won First Place, Best Original Screenplay at the Rhode Island International Film Festival. Also in 2002, his stage play "Murder Americana: The People v. Lizzie Borden" was produced at Chicago's Circle Theatre ("A wonderful theatrical piece of Americana" --- TALKIN' BROADWAY REGIONAL REVIEWS [CHICAGO]; "Wonderfully done in all facets, measured dialogue tempered with artist folds of stage origami.Destined for awards and accolades." --- THE OAK PARK JOURNAL.) While in Chicago for its production, Harry appeared on a panel, "New Playwrights Emerging in Chicago," a public forum mediated by the Sun-Time's Lucia Newman. Earlier that same year, Harry wrote, directed and produced a comedy featurette, "In The Bathroom."

In the fall of 1999, his rock musical comedy, "Satan's School for Girls" was done in workshop at The Producer's Club in NYC starring Broadway divas Lea DeLaria ("On The Town," "The Rocky Horror Show") and Laura Bell Bundy ("Hairspray," "Ruthless!".) "Satan's School..." also enjoyed a "Jeff-recommended" run at Circle Theater in 1997 (Chicago's Joseph Jefferson Theatre Awards) ("A beautifully understated satire with some knock-you-off-your-seat tunes!" ---THE CHICAGO READER; "Rollicking and raucous and exceptionally tuneful" ---GAY CHICAGO;) a run at Dudley Riggs' ETC Theatre in Minneapolis in 1991 ("Good, giddy musical farce! A winning evening!" ---MINNEAPOLIS STAR TRIBUNE; "Wicked, wild comedy! Funnier than a weed-soaked séance in your best friend's back yard" ---MINNESOTA DAILY;) and a cabaret production in New York City (Don't Tell Mama, 1993.) In 1998, Harry was a contributing writer for "Puns of Steel," a Los Angeles-based touring improv troupe that appeared regularly at the Luna Park Theatre in West Hollywood. Harry has written or contributed to (and performed in) several cabaret shows in NYC, including the critically acclaimed 1997 MAC Award-winning one-woman show "Mostly-Dyed Blond" ("Wonderful!" ---BACKSTAGE; "The funniest dirty-minded lyrics since Cole Porter or Mae West."---WBAI RADIO; "Hilariously racy!"---NEW YORK DAILY NEWS,) starring Virginia McMath.

As an actor, Harry has appeared in productions of Oliver!, Godspell, The Crucible, Reindeer Monologues, and Evita, among others; and played Dracula at the popular Brigantine Castle, a live "horror" attraction north of Atlantic City. On-screen acting credits include a supporting lead in "Baroness," an indie short; and a leading role in "The Reception," a Columbia University Film School short.

Harry is currently a student at New York University. He has also studied at H.B. Studio, Playwrights Horizons, and is an alum of Robert McKee's "Story"seminar. His screenplay "Spooked" has been optioned for feature production by CKFilmworks of Los Angeles (2007). He has also had work published in NYU's Dovetail magazine (2006).

Harry is a member of A.S.C.A.P., the Dramatists Guild and Authors League of America.
